The Values and Science/Technology Program is part of The Common Course of Study. Just as every first semester freshman takes a First-Year Seminar, every sophomore takes a VAST course. (Engineering students satisfy the VAST requirement by taking E.S. 225, Engineering Professionalism and Ethics.) As is the case for every First-Year Seminar, every VAST course is writing-intensive, and is thus affiliated with The College Writing Program. Both FYS and VAST emphasize critical thinking and student-centered learning. FYS, English 110 (College Writing), and VAST are the three writing-intensive experiences shared by all Lafayette students in their first two years.
