Merged Beings
Francis Jordan

"We are beginning to see the biosphere not only as a continual struggle favoring the most vicious organisms but also as an endless dance of diversifying life forms, where partners triumph."
--Lynn Margulis and Dorion Sagan
The Dance

One:
Stolen glances,
Across crowded floors,
The dancers convene.

Two:
Hand in hand,
A test of rhythm.
Can they be one with the beat?

Three:
Gentle sways,
And delicate movements,
They start the tango.

Four:
Bodies and limbs
Become one.
They are the dance.

Five:
The Music can't last forever.
Aching feet give way,
to individual needs.

Six:
Does the dancer benefit,
From the energy expended,
Or is it the dance that wins.
