Welcome to the ECE 492 homepage

ECE 492 is the second half of the Electrical and Computer Engineering capstone experience. Thirteen seniors designed and built a device that provides communications interoperability. More information about this project and communications interoperability can be found by using the links to the left.

The purpose of this site is to help with team communication, be a common repository for important documents and to allow visitors an opportunity to monitor progress.

Announcements

5/13/06 - All documents are now on the website. Over the course of this project we generated 364 pages of documentation, wrote 3600 lines of Verilog code and 1400 lines of Java code. We also designed three PCB layouts and ordered 8 PCB boards.
5/8/06 - We presented our design to the faculty and other vistors. The presentation and the demo went very well. We are now working on finalizing the documentation and uploading it to this website.
4/20/06 - Picture section started
4/20/06 - 1 month to graduation
4/14/06 - Hub Board in!
3/24/06 - Remember, 1 page write up about what your group is going to demo next Friday is due to Jemison by Monday morning, 11am.
The notes I took about the demo are on the web(minutes for March 24) so look at those to make sure you cover everything we committed to in class.
Additions and Edits to Final Document should be emailed to the Documentation Team by 6pm EVERY Thursday. They will forward it on to Jemison by Friday night.
3/9/2006 - Motorola Interface Cable Complete
The cable is attached to the M120 VHF radio with the following signal definitions:
Red w/Shield Mic Audio
White PTT
Yellow COR [Currently unprogrammed]
Blk w/Shield Discriminator Audio
Red Switch A+ [be careful, 13.8V]
Black Floating
3/7/2006 - The available real estate on the LRU form factor for mounting circuit cards shall be a maximum of 4.5" by 11". This keeps the boards clear of the card guides.
3/2/2006 - Info from Professor Gum: I met with Andy to discuss the LRU physical assemblies that will fit in the card cage.
1. For planning purposes the cards will be limited to the height of our cage minus the card guide mounting rail and guide thickness. Your LRU height will be around 5.5" max.
2. The depth of the cards will be 12". This leaves room in the back of the cage for the ribbon cable[s] that comprise our simulated backplane/busses.
3. ALL connections for the LRUs are made at the rear edge [back of the cabinet].
4. We will need a signal count for each LRU from the audit for sizing ribbon cables.

2/27/2006 - The Final Document's Outline is on the ECE Drive. Each section has been mapped out in a basic form. If you change your outline please change it in the Outline Document. Please save your documents in the Final Document Folder. Due Dates: March 10th - First Draft of the Final Document
