Memorabilia from the campaigns of Robert and Helen Meyner.
Subseries 1, Photographs, contains more than 2,500 photographs documenting both the public and private lives of Robert B. and Helen Stevenson Meyner. For each, there is a rich collection of family photographs, including childhood images of both. Of special interest among Helen Meyner's photos are images of Meyner as a field worker for the American Red Cross in Japan and Korea (1950-1952) and as consumer advisor for Trans World Airlines (1953-1955). There are also a small number of photographs of her working for Adlai Stevenson's presidential campaign (1956), in both the regular sequence and oversize photographs. There is also a collection of individual and group photographs of Meyner and her colleagues in Congress (1975-1979). Photographs of Robert Meyner show him as a student at Lafayette College (1926- 1930), as an attorney in Phillipsburg, New Jersey (1930s), as State Senator (1946-1951), and as governor-elect, standing on the steps of Kirby Hall at Lafayette College (1953). Of special interest are photographs of his political campaigns (1953, 1957) and inauguration (1954, 1958). The bulk of the Robert Meyner photographs picture him attending various functions in his capacity as governor of New Jersey. There is a large collection of photographs of Robert and Helen Meyner; this subseries also contains some drawings, silhouettes, and paintings of both Robert and Helen Meyner. Subseries 2, Negatives and Slides, contains 15 miscellaneous negatives, and approximately 200 slides, both in color and black and white. Of special interest is a large group of color slides of the Meyners' wedding (1957) and of the couple at the governor's mansion in New Jersey (ca. 1960). There are also slides of Robert Meyner's campaign (1969) and color slides of Helen Meyner seated in her Congressional office in Washington. Subseries 3, Photograph Albums and Scrapbooks contains 43 albums; some remain in their original album and others have been disbound and filed in folders. Included are albums depicting Robert Meyner's Bachelor's Party at Lafayette College (1957), the Meyners' wedding (1957), trips to Europe and Russia (1959), and the couple at the governor's mansion in Princeton, New Jersey. Of further interest are scrapbooks which Helen Meyner kept at Rosemary Hall High School (1944-1946), during a trip to Mexico (1949), while working for the American Red Cross (1950-1952), and at TWA (1953-1954). There are also two scrapbooks presented to Meyner by her Congressional staff. Other items are presentation albums, given to the Meyners following official visits and meetings. Subseries 4, Audio-Visual Material, contains various types of recording media primarily documenting Robert Meyner's gubernatorial campaign in 1953. Of special interest is a collection of phonographic recordings of Meyner's campaign radio broadcasts. Subseries 5, Oversize Material, contains oversize formats of materials found in Series I, including Robert Meyner's Citations and Awards, Cartoons, Clippings, and Memorabilia. Of special interest is the large collection of campaign memorabilia and original drawings by cartoonist William H. Crawford. This subseries also contains oversize formats of material found in Series II, including Helen Meyner's Citations and Awards and Memorabilia.
